What we do
What does your Community Council do?
The Council has the responsibility for managing public money provided annually by Conwy Council from the precept ( currently £30,000) We may also be involved in applying for windfall cash (for example monies provided by a developer for additional recreational facilities in the village) although these sums are usually controlled by Conwy County Council and for any available grants for capital projects.
All councillors have a duty to ensure that the requirements of the various legislations of the Welsh Government are properly enacted. The way in which we account for those monies, communicate with our community and help to protect our local environment are all governed by laws.
Services and Facilities:
Manages the precept from your Council Tax (currently £30,000 pa) to provide:

-
9 defibrillator cabinets and units.
-
Shares the cost of cemetery maintenance and water;

-
Contributes to Conwy Council for the cost of the CCTV sited opposite Church Street;
-
Pays for internet access (via two mobile routers) at Church House and Hwb Cae Erw;
-
Funds the Fireworks display at Cae Ffwt, the Christmas tree, flags and flagpoles on the green.
-

Donations and Grants:
Applications for funding are encouraged from organisations within the village although it should be noted that by law, we are not able to fund political or religious entities.
The Council has a role in supporting community-led activities and initiatives and regularly provides grants to village organisations such as the village school, Sports Association, Brownies and the Ramblers group.
We also provided one off support to events such as the Jubilee and Coronation events at Church House and the 2023 Clean-up-the -village Day.
For the last four years the Council has also funded a Christmas voucher scheme.
Local Planning:
We review planning applications in and around the village and make submissions where necessary on behalf of local residents and businesses.
We communicate with the Highways Agency concerning the busy A470 and the safety of our pedestrian crossing.
Communication:
It is crucial that we communicate effectively with the residents of Glan Conwy to make sure that as many people as possible benefit from, and have a say in, our spending. Councillors are always pleased to receive requests, comments and feedback from residents. We are also planning to install a series of notice boards around the village.

The monthly Council meetings are also available to attend by Zoom. The link is shown our Home page.
Dates of the monthly community council meetings, agenda and minutes are posted regularly on the Church House noticeboard. All residents are welcome to attend these meetings and, by arrangement, have their say. We are in the process of enabling online participation for residents..
In May there is the Annual meeting where all residents are invited to review the work of the Council in the previous year (our year runs from April 1st to 31st March).
