About the Council

The Community Council consists of 12 elected Councillors and the Council Clerk. The Councillors are all unpaid volunteers who have an interest in serving the community and improving facilities in the village. Councillors are elected every five years (coinciding with the County Council Elections) and anyone of voting age may stand for election. The Clerk is employed by the Community Council and occupies an important position acting as a guide to the legalities of being a Councillor, keeping accurate documentation and financial records as the Responsible Financial Officer. The Clerk’s position is remunerated according to a published table of salary for Council Clerks. The Council controls a budget that is derived from the precept, currently £30,000 per annum a number that has not changed in 4 years.

Prior to 1974, Llansanffraid Glan Conwy was an Urban District Council in the historic county of Caernarfonshire.

Llansanffraid Glan Conwy Community Council Town Council was created in1974 following the re-organisation of local government. Llansanffraid Glan Conwy is now one of 33 community councils in the County of Conwy.

The Village is divided into two wards Bryn Rhys and Fforddlas with the boundary roughly following the stream that runs to the south of Maes Hyfred before disappearing under the houses and under Ffordd Naddyn. Bryn Rhys ward also includes Dolwyd whilst FforddLas ward incudes Graig, Pentrefelin and Garth Road. Each ward has 6 councillors. The present councillors were elected in May 2022 to serve a five-year term, but not all elected councillors find they can commit the time and by elections may be held during the five years.

The Council holds an Annual Meeting in May and regular meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of every month normally at 7pm in Church House and arrangements are in process to enable online participation for residents. Notice of the meeting dates and agenda items will be published several days before the meeting, and anyone is welcome to attend to listen. Speaking by non-councillors may be allowed by special request.

Please refer to the 'Council Meetings and Agenda' page for the dates of forthcoming meeting
